Bringing Nine Companies Under One Website Saved a Huge Amount on Website Hosting
Ukpeagvik Inupiat Corporation (UIC) Alaska is headquartered in the northernmost point of the United States. In 2017, it was ranked #9 in terms of gross revenue, according to Alaska Business Monthly’s annual “Top 49ers” list. The UIC family includes a total of nine companies, which have an incredible social and economic impact on its 2,900 shareholders and descendants.
The Marketing Challenge
The biggest trouble with having nine companies, with nine separate websites, is that it’s very expensive to host and maintain. UIC team members were unable to directly edit any of them. Instead, they would request change through their management companies, which incurred large fees and took three days to appear on the homepage. In addition to being expensive and inconvenient, this model was incredibly outdated and didn’t suit today’s digital environment.
The other important factor to note is that the user experience was also impacted. It was difficult for visitors to quickly find the information they needed. This lack of accessibility meant the best option was to totally rebuilt the website on WordPress, using a solution called multisite.
How We Got Results
UIC needed a sharp, professional, and functional website. Our rebuild combined a polished look and feel with exceptional user experience. Multisite allowed all of UIC’s websites to be hosted in one straightforward location, which meant they could be managed and edited in-house. It’s easy and intuitive, and best of all, changes can be uploaded in real time. This system will also allow UIC to expand its website with easy as it grows, simply launching another site using the same template. This new website has received rave reviews from shareholders and staff for its functionality.
